There was a great merchant, diety, donater, infinitely enlightened named Dharma Gupta in Chandrika Nagar. He was dealing with the trading of a types of times, like perfumes, horses, dry fruits, cloths, curry products etc.. He had great wealth of his fore fathers who were also in this line. Once this merchant had been to an island and brought with him various perfumes in huge quantity and sold them in his home town. He also used to trade chemicals, perfumes, wheat, rice, iron, bronze, grains etc… he was prompt and regular with the business and gained huge profit with this business. He became famous in the neighborhood places. Even while roaming with his wife and children he did not spend much money on them. He did not even perform shraddha to his demised father. Even during the time of vaidruti, vyateepaata times, Ravi sankramana Kaala, ardodaya punya kaala did not donate cows and other items. For the guests who arrived at home, food for the unfortunates, a fist full of rice or grains and not even a drop of water was donated / given to the needed. He became so stingy even not to give a single grain of thing to the needed. All the donation seekers, those in trouble were deceived in grievance cursed him to become a pishachi or mad evil. Thus, cursed every time by those in needed, one day his house was set into fire and burnt up everything. He lost his wife and children’s and became a sick rogue, wormified and ran away into the forest. Suffering from hunger and thirst he took shelter under a tree and slept. In that forest he ate whatever available. Then a hungry tiger killed and ate him seeing him lying under the tree. He became a mad evil. One day a pilgrim Brahmin named ‘kutsa’, was passing by the forest and knowing this he came to the Brahmin and happily hugged him. Dharmagupta told- “hey great Brahmana, I am glorified by touching you. I beg you to show pity and prosper me.” Hearing this, brahmin told Dharmagupta “Who are you? Why and how did you attain this weird and furious form? What did you do in your past to attain this form?” For this Dharmagupta replied: “I am a resident of Chandragiri and I am a merchant. I traded perfumes and scents which has been inherited from my fathers and had earned a lot. Due to my stinginess, I did not even give a single penny out. Thus due to these deeds I am cursed to get into this evil yoni. I remembered my past upon your touch. Hey merciful Brahmin, I am surrendering to you. Please remove me out of this and grace me”. The Brahmin then told that he would help Dharmagupta and for this he had to go with him to Gokarna HariHareshwara kshetra and perform the rituals of shraadha. After this you would attain deliverance. Saying this they came to Gokarna.

Reaching there both of them took bath in the holy sea and with all rituals and the procedures shraadha was performed by the brahmin. Dharmaguptpa attained mukti and the Brahmin Kutsa went on for tirth yatra. Thus this place Harihareshwara kshetra is a divine and good place for cleansing out all the sins and bad deeds. Whoever taking deeksha and chants the rudra gayatri mantra sielently 24000 times, all the sins right from the birth; known or unkown will be cleansed and he becomes purified. Willingly or unwillingly whoever is trapped into the relation with prostitution, they get purified by chanting the rudragayatri mantra for one night. The one who kills teacher, teacher’s wife, and alcoholics will get purified by chanting the rudragayatri mantra.

Mother of all cows Kamadhenu in the form of surabhi the universe was only the way created in order to let out Lord Shiva. Watching this Lord Shiva gets angry. In the meantime Lord Vishnu came down to see the universe and finds all the bad evil, pretatma’s and souls cry which is heard by Lord Shiva and Vishnu regrets to know and see all these. Learning that only Lord Shiva can free up these unrestful souls, Vishnu performs penance. Prior to that her performs penance to Lord Ganesha. Thus this land where Lord Vishnu performed penance and has Lord Vishnu’s foot prints, this has become a holy sacred place. That is why this place is called karma Kshetra and HariHareshwar kshetra.

Pleased with the penance of Lord Vishnu, when Lord Shiva asked the reason for the penance, Vishnu told that there are numerous pretatma’s and other souls that are restless and suffering a lot without mukti. In order for these souls to get mukti or moksha (deliverance), MokshaNarayana Bali, preta samskara, tripindi shraadha, sarpa samskara and also naganarayana bali who performs will get relieved from this preta yoni should attain mukti. Especially this place where we both unify when tha above said krama’s are performed they should get mukti in this sacred place. Thus Lord Shiva gave a boon to Vishnu for his wishes.

This way both Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva both together will stand together for the deliverance of the unsatisfied souls of the humans and this place will be called as rudra gaya kshetra as well as harihareshwara kshetra.

During the time when this Shri Gokarna Kshetra was sunk in the sea, Lord Vishnu penenced Lord Surya Deva (Sun) and holding the Sudarshana Chakra, Lord Vishnu pushed back the sea. Thus this place being protected by Lord Surya (Sun) and the place where Lord Vishnu’s footprint is present is the holy sacred HariHareshwara Kshetra or Bhaskara Kshetra. For all the black magic’s, witch crafts pindika mahasudarshana yaaga will have to be performed and this will rule out all the dosha (defects) and provide relief. People since ages come here to perform these karma’s and attain relief paternally and mentally.

This sacred place has been the cause for the eshtablishment of the Atma Linga of Lord Shiva where the dawn was mimic’d by Lord Vishnu holding the Sudarshana Chakra amidst the sun for Ravana. Thus this place came to be known as BhooKailasa meaning the unity of the earth and the kailasa where Lord Shiva lives. Many saints and deities have performed penance, yajna’s and worshipped the Lords and have attained fruitful results.

This way having the grace of both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu on this place, Moksha Narayana Bali, Tripindi Shraaddha, Naga Narayana Bali, Naga Prathishthe, Curse of the serpants, Paternal ancestors curses bad beings and evils etc.. All the bad consequences will be eradicated in this sacred place. This is such HariHareshwara Sanidhya. Even in pre-historic granthas (novels) as believed by the astika’s, it is also mentioned about this divine sannidhi of Shree Kshetra Gokarna Hari Hareshwara.

In the event of splitting the bharata Khanda of Sagara Kumara, a dip got created in the part of the earth. Gradually in that sack water started filling up and a waterfall got created. It kept filling up the place and the Shiva linga as well the places of the saints began to sink. In the great dip of the shatashringa (100 mountains) is what we see the sea. The part of earth is just 5 meters above the sea. In case of any natural calamity like floods, earthquakes this area could be easily drowned with water and yet nothing such happened till date. This is so true to be the grace of god on having this supernatural blessing.

With the fear that the place would again fill up with the sea by the sagara kumaras, the saints and life would be orphaned and they decided to approach Parashurama who was performing the Vishwajit yajna. The world then had already belonged to Parashurama. Thus whatever the digvijayi Parashurama had earned through the yajna’s and homa’s was handed over to Saint Kashyapa and hence this place is also called as Kaashyapi. Thinking over the request done by the saints who approached, Parashurama told to Varuna that if he did not leave out the part of earth conquered he would dry him up using the Aagneyaastra. Frightened with the boisterous anger of Parashurama, Varuna politely accepted his mistake and he agreed to leave out the part of earth acquired as much you ask for. Accepting this offer, from his place he kicked his sruva ( small wooden ladle) used for the yajna. Shree Kshetra Gokarna part came back to its original position. Thus this place got rebirth by the hands of Parashurama. Being a great ascetic, and having travelled around the world 21 times and klilling all the kshatriya’s came to Shree Kshetra Gokarna and in order to get mukti from all the sins he had committed he performed all the krama’s and karya’s for the dead. Thus this place is also called as “Parashurama Kshetra”. Shree Kshetra Gokarna has also been noted in many famous historic books

Lord Brahma himself in the form of Sandhya, performed intense penance to Lord Shiva and delighted with it Shiva himself evidently appeared. Any kriya’s or karma’s done here without going into waste until now, eradicates all ailments and the paternal deliverance is attained for the shraaddha done here.

The Holy HariHareshwara temple is situated in the shore of the western sea of Shree Kshetra Gokarna. The river Tamraparni flown though this place and reached the sea as stated in the puranas. According to the history Brahma’s manasa kumari (self-created daughter)Surabhi was living in this place. She was performing daily rituals and worships to the linga and as a result the linga is shaped in HariHareshwara form. Lord Vishnu delighted with the devotion of Surabhi gave high importance and recognition to this place and blessed that and work done here will be success indefinitely. After some time Surabhi accented to deva Loka i.e, Swarga. The pithru karma’s performed here will eradicate all the sins and debts of the demised.

These types of Karma’s are performed regularly and all the paternal debts are fulfilled with all the pithru karma’s. There is much more importance and dignity for the works carried out here than in any other places.
