Pitru Paksha Shraddha 2026

If the souls of our ancestors are satisfied and in peace, they take care of and protect the whole family. But if their souls are unsatisfied, problems for the entire family are expected.

What Is Pitru Paksha

Pitru Paksha is the season of ancestors, falling in the second paksha of the Hindu lunar month of Bhadrapada (September–October). During this period, families pay homage to ancestors through spiritual rituals to remove ill-effects existing in the horoscope, including those from Pitru Shapa, Matru Shapa, and Stree Shapa.

Souls from the past seven births are blessed by our ancestors when this pooja is performed correctly, and the next seven births are also blessed — 15 generations in total benefit from the ritual. It is performed especially through Pinda Pradan, Tarpan, and food offerings to Brahmins. Performing this ceremony with utmost faith and a peaceful mind gives the Karta the full benefit of the ceremony and the ancestors' lasting blessing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know my ancestor's exact tithi of death?

It helps, but if you don't know it, Sarva Pitru Amavasya (Mahalaya Amavasya) is valid for all ancestors regardless of their specific death tithi.

Can this be performed if elders in the family are still living?

Yes — several of the recommended rituals, including Rudragaya Samskar, can be performed even while elders are alive.

How far in advance should I book?

Demand rises sharply in the final days of Pitru Paksha, especially around Mahalaya Amavasya — we recommend confirming your date as early as possible.
